Emma Readhead obtained her degree in Podiatry at Southampton University, in the UK, which is one of The Russell Group’s world-class research-intensive universities.
Here she further earned a Chancellors Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Since graduating she has gained a wealth of experience working in private clinics in the UK and Australia specialising in general care, including high-risk patients, nail surgery and biomechanics. In recent years she has worked with several specialists working on more chronic or complex biomechanical issues, including conservative treatments to prevent the need for surgery, reduce pain and improve quality of life.
She has expanded her scope of practice to offer verruca needling for minor surgical treatment of stubborn warts and manual therapies to encourage improved range of motion and relieve pain.
Emma has joined us here at Orthopaedics ACT so that we can expand our lower limb services for a more holistic in-house experience, working directly with Dr Saqib Zafar. One of Emma’s assets in this role is her ability to individualise therapies, often creating in chair solutions or refurbishing old orthotics for new presentations or where interventions have failed in the past. Consultations for complex or biomechanical issues are extended to allow careful consideration of a completely personalised treatment plan, often with treatment being initiated at the first consultation.
Emma enjoys working closely with other professionals and believes firm relationships equally within and outside of podiatry offer the best chances of patient centred treatment and positive outcomes. She prides herself in prioritising patient education to help individuals make informed choices about the care they receive, to improve engagement and to further improve outcomes. Beyond this, she aims to further her skills and knowledge by regularly attending multidisciplinary professional events and courses.
When not being a podiatrist, Emma is usually outdoors, camping, hiking, kayaking or paddleboarding.
